Sex Therapy & Relationship Counseling with YY Wei, LCSW, CST (Certified Sex Therapist)

Hi, I’m YY, the owner and director of The Relationship Center of Colorado. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Certified Sex Therapist (CST) through The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). I have over ten years of clinical experience in providing Relationship Therapy, Couples & Marriage Counseling, and Sex Therapy.

I opened my center to provide Intimacy & Body Based Individual Therapy, Marriage Counseling & Couples Therapy, Sex Therapy, and PTSD/Trauma Therapy. I wanted to create a safe, inclusive place where individuals and couples can come to reconnect with themselves, their family members, and/or their partners. As a Denver Marriage Counselor & Couples therapist, I am passionate about giving people skills and hope for their relationship.

You can have the relationships that you want because I will give you all the tools as your marriage counselor, couples therapist, and individual therapist/counselor. Doing what works SHOULD NOT be a mystery and a secret.

Denver Marriage Counseling, Couples Therapy, Sex Therapy, & PTSD/Trauma Therapy can give you all the "secrets" to succeed.

Couples & Sex Therapy is my primary speciality so I see mostly couples in my practice. I have some individual clients who come to see me because they feel stressed, anxious, or depressed but their experiences are still related to different relationships in their lives. They could be relationships with their parents, siblings, partners, or selves.

I help my clients cultivate healthy relationship through the use of Evidence and Research Based strategies and interventions. I want them to have concrete, practical tools to use to go through the rough patch in life. As their sex therapist, marriage counselor, couples therapist, and individual therapist, I want to help them have an intimacy relationship and a satisfying sex life.

My Lifelong Purpose & Goal

Since I could remember, my purpose has always been to help individuals develop more self-confidence and self-loving. My another purpose is to help loved ones from all sexual orientations, gender identity, and relationship styles understand each other better and get along better. I strive to be the best sex therapist, marriage counselor, couples therapist, & relationship therapist. I want to help my clients become the person they want to be and/or the partners they want to be. Therefore, they can have relationships that bring smiles on their faces and sex that satisfying their beings and bring more intimacy in their relationships.

I am passionate and committed to helping as many individuals and couples as possible.

Why Did I Set Those Purpose & Goal for Myself?

I grew up in a Chinese culture and community. I appreciate what my culture and my community have taught me - to be kind, compassionate, hardworking and treat people with honesty, integrity, and respect. They have also shown me the importance of being resilient, strong, and creative and using humor and support in the face of hardships. I am grateful for the wisdom that my culture and my community have given to me.

My culture and my community however, did not give me the space and the permission to be Me - the Authentic Me. I was not allowed to have my voice and opinions. My sexuality, sexual voice, and sexual choices were being openly scorned at, criticized, judged, and put down because of my gender and my choices. The message I received was, "It is not ok for you to be you. There's something wrong with you to have thoughts, opinions, and actions like that."

I also realized how much unrealistic, disempowering messages people and social media in both Chinese and American culture have about relationship, sex & sexuality, intimacy & desire, and love.  When I was younger, I thought "happily ever after" was achieved by finding the person you love and who loves you.  As I got older myself and started having my own relationship journey, I found out that "happily ever after" doesn’t come through very easily

No one told me that, "by the way, it is important that you need know yourself and have the right skills in order to have the relationship that you want. And sex and intimacy are more than just pleasing yourself and/or your partner and being 'happily ever after.'"

Moreover, no one had ever looked at me and told me, "It is okay for you to be you," or "You have the right to your voice, especially your sexual voice. You can own them the way you want." I never got those messages growing up and the permissions to practice self-compassion, self-love, and self-validation, and most of the people I have encountered have never had that experience too due to the invasion of unhealthy social media and cultural influences. As a result, I was in for a rude awakening but I have learned that there is something wrong with the myth of having a good relationship without learning the right information and good relationship skills.

My Journey of Becoming A Certified Sex Therapist, Marriage Counselor & Couples Therapist...

I started doing my own work to unburden those unhealthy, disempowering messages and experiences. I was on a quest to find myself to become "The Authentic Me". It was so freeing when I finally learned the right messages that helped me rediscover and strengthen myself from the inside out. It is okay to have my own voice, and I can still have a relationship with whomever I get in contact with.

I also made a very intentional purpose in my undergraduate and graduate programs to study and learn about relationship, sex & sexuality, intimacy & desire, and self-love work. After I finished my six years of my undergraduate and graduate programs, I spent at least another eight years going to different relationship and sex therapy trainings to learn the most effective approaches and the latest research to help my clients have a connected, intimate relationship and a satisfying sex life. It was so freeing when I finally learned the right messages that helped me rediscover and strengthen myself from the inside out.

All theses approaches are evidence & research based, which means they have been proven through numerous research to show their effectiveness. I also receive consultation and supervision from some of the best clinicians in the field of Individual Therapy, Marriage Counseling & Couples Therapy, Sex Therapy, and PTSD/Trauma Therapy.

I love learning, so going to those trainings was energizing for me.  Plus, I wanted to make sure I could provide the best treatment for my clients so they can heal, recharge, and move forward. I wanted to be an ethical marriage counselor, couples therapist, sex therapist, and individual therapist. I want to do my work with honesty, integrity, and ethics.

I was also able to put them in use in my own relationships and practiced them. Once I realized the tricks to making and keeping relationships healthy, fun, connected, intimate, and loving, I wanted to share them with as many people as I could. I’m really passionate about working with couples and teaching them the various skills I have learned. Hence, they don't have to be stuck and feel frustrated like I did in my old relationships.

Having the relationship that you want is really about having the right strategies to rekindle lost desire and connection. As a highly trained Marriage Counselor Denver, I can help you with that.

Through my personal and professional experiences, I have come to know that relationships are important but they can be difficult without the right skill set. We all need tools to feel heard, understood and connected and to keep the passion and the intimacy alive. We all need to learn how to clearly communicate our thoughts and feelings instead of talking out of impulsivity and reaction. Marriage is about brining down the criticism and blaming and bringing up the empathy, understanding, and curiosity. We also need to have the skills to be able to have disagreements and still maintain the emotional and sexual connection.

I have devoted my professional life to helping people build stronger relationships. I would like to help you too. Please don’t wait another day. You don't have to be stuck in the same, old pattern. Get support and guidance now so I can give you all the tools I have learned as a marriage counselor, couples therapist, sex therapist, and individual therapist.
