Margaret Kapitan, MS, MFTC

Denver & Lakewood Individual Therapist, Relationship Therapist, Couples & Marriage Counselor

Hi, I am Maggie Kapitan, and I am a new Colorado resident. I am a License Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), with an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy as well as a Level II Gottman Method Couple’s Therapy Provider. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs, then lived in east Tennessee before finding my roots in Denver. My lived experiences and family have fostered a strong belief in the importance of acceptance, support, communication, and healing, which has guided me to pursue the work of a therapist.

I began my education by pursuing a BA in human development and family services, followed by a MS in marriage and family therapy. Throughout my work I have been able to work with families, children, adolescents, couples, and individuals for the treatment of mood and trauma related disorders and improving relationships. I have learned the importance of recognizing all the systems that surround us and understanding how they influence the ways we create meanings about self and others. This has influences my approach to therapy, which is heavily influenced by social constructionism, to primarily utilize Narrative and Collaborative Language Systems therapy approaches.

I believe that our relationship with our self and our relationships with others are constantly influencing one another. I use a lens of self-compassion to build intimacy with self, thus fostering more intimacy with others.

In my personal life, I find the greatest joy in spending time with my partner, family, friends, picking up a book, drawing, and painting. I am truly passionate about people and consider it an honor to witness and hear the stories of all my clients.

Education & Credentials

  • Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy

  • Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)

  • Registered Psychotherapist

  • Gottman Method Couple’s Therapy Level 2

We highly recommend Maggie as a competent, empathic, and goal-oriented couples therapist. Her approach helped us to communicate with each other honestly and with vulnerability which strengthened our marriage. Maggie did a wonderful job balancing an approachable and light-hearted approach with skills-based therapy that kept us on track without feeling “robotic.” Couples therapy with Maggie was worthwhile, as we continue to see the benefits even several months after our last session. Thank you, Maggie!
