Non-Sexual Intimacy and Touch

There is so much more to physical intimacy than sex. Do you ever find yourself cuddling, kissing, or touching, and then it leads to sex and you feel a little let down? You’re craving non-sexual touch and intimacy.

Sexual intercourse is just one way of many we express love, desire, and closeness with someone. Let’s look at some other ways we can cultivate intimacy with our partner.

Leaving and Reuniting Throughout The Day

In the mornings before you get up to start the day, spend just a few minutes cuddling and being close, talking, or both. Making each other a priority first thing in the morning is an easy way to start your day out intentionally loving each other.

When you see each other again after being away, do you and your partner have any rituals you stick to? For example, giving each other a kiss, hug, or welcoming each other back? Adding a small action upon reuniting lets your partner know they were missed and you’re happy for them to be back.

Holding Hands

Holding hands is one of the most simple types of physical affection and closeness and we can initiate nearly anytime and anywhere. Whether it’s while you’re driving, watching a movie together, walking, or having drinks, it’s easy to hold your partner’s hand.

Simple intimacy like this builds a sense of security and comfort with each other.

Turn Toward Your Partner

Are you attentive and responsive when your partner tries to talk with you and connect with you? It’s easy to let small circumstances get in the way and turn away from your partner to take care of things, but the more we make a point to stay connected the easier it is for us to feel connected when we are out of site or away.

Daily Gratitude

When we fall into daily routines and assumed responsibilities, we often overlook the tasks our partner takes on for us and our household. Making a point to say “thank you” or show appreciation regularly builds respect and intimacy.
