"I believe connecting with important influences in a child’s life to gather information, share insights, and work as a team for a child’s health is the best possible approach.
My goal as a Denver/Westminster family therapist and play therapist is to not only help each child through their unique struggle, but to help children and parents communicate so that they will be prepared to tackle challenges in the future. ""

Denver & Westminster Family Therapist and Play Therapist
Kristen's Office - 4800 W. 80th Ave. #201. Westminster, CO 80030
My name is Kristen Sandine. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) with a Master’s Degree in Counseling with a focus in Clinical Mental Health. I also have a Post-Masters Certificate in Counseling Children and Adolescents.
I am a trained mental health practitioner and a dedicated family and play therapist in Denver and Westminster. Due to my compassionate, successful work with my clients, I was often called counselor, therapist, peace teacher, and helper. When I work with my clients, I draw on my extensive experience working as a day care provider, early childhood teacher, college orientation leader, resident advisor, grief counselor, and crisis and trauma therapist. My experience as a Denver and Westminster family therapist and play therapist has helped me to have comprehensive understandings of my clients' issues and develop innovative, result driven plans.
Ever since I could remember, I have always had a great connection with children and adolescents. I am the middle child of five siblings and have many younger cousins. That family dynamic has helped me quickly learn how to navigate conflict and work towards a communal goal. I also use those skills to provide support and guidance to my peers and friends. Recognizing how my skills helped people in my life, I was inspired to become a therapist providing effective family therapy and play therapy in Denver and Westminster.
Given my personal and professional experience, I have developed an acute understanding of my clients' unique situations and a profound respect for their stories and family constellation. My goal as a Denver/Westminster family therapist and play therapist is to not only help each child through their unique struggle, but to help children and parents communicate so that they will be prepared to tackle challenges in the future.
Please watch the following video, "Play Therapy Work!" from the Association for Play Therapy to learn more about Play Therapy and how it helps clients.
When I have family and/or play therapy session with my clients in Denver and Westminster, I introduce the family to my play room and show children that dealing with difficult feelings can involve playfulness and fun. In order to further meet my client’s needs, I offer in-home visits, school visits, and collaborate with teachers, coaches, and other professionals as appropriate.
Some of the interventions I use with my children or teen clients to help them communicate and express their thoughts and emotions, address unresolved trauma and loss to experience internal and personal growth are:
- art materials & games
- creative visualization
- costumes/dress up/role play
- stuffed animals/dolls/puppets
- sandbox with miniature figurines (Watch Video - "Sand" - An example of its use in Play Therapy),
- physical play
- dance and movement
- therapeutic books/storytelling
- sensory materials & natural materials
- child - centered imaginary play
I want to provide a wide range of tools and strategies so my clients can find their own unique ways to work through their difficulties Some of my favorite things about being a play therapist in Denver and Westminster is hearing the progress my clients are making in school, social activities, or with their family and seeing their confidence steadily grow.
I am working towards earning credentials as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and using these skills to work specifically with children and adolescents. I looks forward to the opportunity to meet you and learn how I can help your child and family.
